The crazy sheriff Joe Arpaio
I have been keeping my eye on this guy since he started coming out on the news two years ago. For those who do not know who Joe Arpaio is, he is a Maricopa County Sheriff who is against Immigration. His office faces racial profiling allegations over crime and immigration sweeps in some heavily Latino areas of metro Phoenix. I haven’t written about him because of two reasons, he is a nut case and I did not find a reason to publizise his hate. But I figured it was time to write about him.
Arpio came into the light when he created the “Tent City” in South Phoenix, Ariz., making inmates wear pink underwear. He has made the 2,000 inmates live outside, sleeping on cots in old canvas tents. If he is treating American Citizens who happen to be inmates, imagine what he does to the detainees he has rounded up along with his 100 deputies during his immigration raids.
In October of 2009, he was stripped of some of his powers in what he described as a political move by the Obama administration. In the previous two-year-old agreement with the federal department of homeland security, he and his deputies were given the authority to enforce federal immigration law by arresting suspected Undocumented Immigrants in the field by cross checking their Immigration status along with any criminal background checks.
Although he no longer has the full authority to question suspected detainees in the street, he and his jail officers still have the power to question jailed people about their immigration status once they are in the station. He still can detain suspected undocumented immigrants who haven’t committed state crimes, regardless of the change by askeding their citizenship and social security number. Officials then look them up in the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, database.
His plan to continue cracking down illegal immigration is by enforcing state laws that prohibit immigrant smuggling and ban employers from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.
Since last May 7,000 illegal immigrants have been detained this way according to Amy Coon, one of 160 Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies trained to enforce federal immigration law.

This guy thinks that what he is doing is perfectly ok. He should have all of his authority taken away so he can stop profiling innocent people.
